UK based producer Ronnie Spiteri is a man on the rise, his productions have gained traction with a stream of heavyweight releases on Knee Deep In Sound, Mobilee and Truesoul to name but a few. A new year brings fresh projects and his forthcoming EP on We Are The Brave has already been premiered by Radio 1’s Danny Howard before it’s 1st March release date.

We caught up with Ronnie for an introduction to his world…

Last year really put you on the map across the Electronic music scene, have you had chance to sit back and take in your progression so far?

Yes, last year was exceptional in terms of my career – it’s been a whirlwind ever since my first residency on the White Island for my team’s brand ‘Do Not Sleep’ at the legendary Amnesia. I’m still pinching myself about how it all went and I’m so excited for this summer as I have some big announcements on the way. I’ll sit back and take it all in once I retire, but right now I’m just powering ahead!

You’re now part of the Do Not Sleep and We Are The Brave crew and have toured South America with Darius Syrossian, how did you two meet?

I first met Darius about 5/6 years ago when I played at a warehouse party with him and Pete Tong, we just got chatting and we kept in contact… Then a few months later, I went to Italy with him for the weekend for some much-needed time away and he put everything in perspective for me – that’s when I came back and started my Kenja Records imprint and got my head down in the studio. That’s when it all began for me and I really started taking the next steps in my career.

How much have you taken in from Darius and Alan in terms of their experiences and knowledge of the scene?

It’s amazing to have two of my closest pals believing in me and creating the platform for up-and-coming acts… It’s good to play alongside both of them as I get to express the darker side to my style when playing with Alan , and when playing with Darius I am able to play rolling, stripped-back underground house music so it’s always a win-win for me.

Has your approach in the studio changed with the insights you’ve gained from the likes of Darius and Alan?

I always make music that I can see myself playing in clubs so yeah, being involved with two massive artists and labels will always make me think more about how I can express myself in the right way for these nights through music that also still represents me as an artist and what I’m trying to do.

Are there any studio sessions in the diary with either of them this year?

There’s always a chance that me and Darius, or me and Alan, could do a collaboration track together, but it would just all be about timing as all three of us have very busy schedules with our own commitments – but it would be something I’d love to do for sure.

It’s not every day you ask this question; tell us how you’ve ended up with a podcast on all British Airways flights?

Yes, this was brought to the table by my team who are working so hard for me at the moment, and we all agreed that it’s a different thing to do but obviously a huge opportunity. I was buzzing to get stuck into it as it’s not often you get offered an opportunity to do this – from April you’ll be able to listen to an exclusive hour-long mix of mine on board all BA flights, I’ve kept it dancefloor-orientated so it’ll certainly be something different to check out if you’re travelling somewhere.

2019 is already shaping up to be a huge year for you, any goals or targets in mind you’d like to achieve musically and what have you got coming up?

2019 is shaping up to be my biggest year yet with some big tour announcements coming soon – I can’t say too much other than Ibiza is going to be so special for me this year 😉

Also, I can announce that I’ll be releasing another album on Kenja Records at the end of the summer – the first album I released last year went down so well and the feedback was amazing, so it feels right to follow that up with some another collection of original material. I also have another release lined up on Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave with my first full vocal track which I made with Lizz Cas… And of course, I have a release booked in with my Do Not Sleep family too 🙂

Catch Ronnie in Manchester, 2nd March at Stage & Radio.
