With the steady rise in popularity of House and Techno over the past few years comes a brand new breed of individuals interested in the more technical side of music, we’re talking about the bedroom DJs and producers who are looking to expand their knowledge and expertise. Having completed music orientated degrees the XYST team understand the importance of education especially in this industry, Manchester Midi School has been a constant figure in our city allowing musicians and producers the chance to hone their craft around highly knowledgeable lecturers in a fantastic high tech environment.
Since its inception in 1997 many students have passed through their doors, The Manchester Midi School is an Authorised Training Centre for Apple Logic Pro, Steinberg Cubase, and a Certified Training Centre for Ableton Live – ensuring consistent, up-to-date teaching on the latest music DAWs and equipment. The likes of Mary Anne Hobbs and X-Press 2 are among countless recognisable names who have utilised the schools online course facility allowing users to learn at their own pace in the comfort of their own studio at home. Production is only half the story at Manchester Midi, courses in Final Cut Pro, music business, DJing and radio broadcast are available at any level from beginner to advanced.
Manchester prides itself on the creative inhabitants that call our city home, Midi School recognises the importance of knowledge from industry professionals and have set up the ‘MMS Sessions’ which aims to bring producers, DJs and musicians who have forwarded their career onto bigger things the chance to talk to students and budding talents about how they got where they are today. The first session took place at the back end of 2013 with Ben Pearce, following on from the success of ‘What I Might Do’ Ben sat down to deconstruct tracks and take part in a Q&A session with guests.
The next session will be lead by Denis Jones, the multi talented Manchester based instrumentalist has recently collaborated with Manchester music royalty Mr Scruff on his forthcoming LP ‘Friendly Bacteria’ which is released on Ninja Tune later this year.
