I must have been like 15 years old and I still remember when my father gave me some CDs from Philip Glass and Terry Riley. They blew me away completely. I was so fascinated by the American minimalism of the late 70s in general. Artists like Donald Judd, John McCracken, Agnes Martin and Dan Favin were a big influence. Only now I understand how important that movement has been to me.
This is my favourite, the entire Svek catalogue is simply amazing. I heard the track for the first time in a compilation ‘She’s a Dancing Machine, mixed by Magda back in 2006. Since I heard the vocal for the first time it just stuck with me. One of those tracks that I enjoy playing over and over which never leaves my DJ sets.
Talking about more “recent” influences, Chaos In The CBD is definitely one of the most inspiring duos I’ve discovered. Hailing from New Zealand the brothers Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales manage to produce a perfect mix between deep vibes, hypnotic grooves and old school vibes with a fresh approach.
This is another track that I have played for many many years. I never get bored of listening to it. Some tracks just don’t age and the entire body of work from Losoul has this quality. His music always pushed me to look for my own style and I hope one day to achieve what he did.
